TKWT's education programme is funded via the Ministry of Education’s Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom (LEOTC). The programme caters for students aged 5-17 years and for both day trips and longer school camps. Students learn ‘hands on’ about the ecology of the forest, the impact of pest plants and animals, scientific monitoring, water quality testing, botany, rongoa, tree and leaf art, GPS logging (and much more!).

We have NCEA standards in Biology and teach in both English and Te Reo Maori. Courses are tailor made to suit school and students needs. Our qualified teacher is available to visit schools for free to plan EE camps.

Learning takes place in a natural environment. Ma te ringa raupa ka ngakaunui te tamaiti ki tona ao (It is through hands on experience that a child learns to love their world).

Much of the learning is student centered with enquiry and action cycles based on the Enviroschools programme.

Environmental Education at Te Kauri is free for school children.
We teach approximately 900 students each year. Schools can attend programmes from one to five days long.
